Box Score 2 AIKEN – The Lander volleyball team picked up two victories Friday at the USC Aiken Invitational when the Bearcats defeated Valdosta State, 3-1, then downed Lincoln Memorial, 3-0.
Lander improves to 5-1 overall. The Bearcats downed Valdosta State, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19, then swept Lincoln Memorial, 25-17, 25-20, 25-14.
Against Valdosta State, Lander's Hannah Dederick and Tarryn Angermeier totaled 16 and 13 kills respectively, Jessica Register had 38 assists and 15 digs, and Sarah Bradley totaled 14 digs and three service aces.
Valdosta State was led by Lelalelei Nomura (nine kills), Jenna Kirkwood (nine kills), Jessica Codato (24 assists), Natalia Campos (14 digs), and Ashley Lala (12 digs).
Against Lincoln Memorial, Angermeier and Dederick tallied 13 kills each and Register had 35 assists. Sarah Bradley led the team in digs with 15, Kiki Hennessey had 12 and Julia Ferreira-Alves 11. Angermeier also had three service aces.
LMU was led by Brooke Fleeman (12 kills), Allison Beavers (18 assists, 10 digs), Abby Cash (11 assists) and Casey Mense (16 digs).
The Bearcats will continue play in the invitational on Saturday when they face Converse College at 10 a.m. and Limestone at noon.
