Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 3-ranked Lander baseball team dropped its first Peach Belt Conference series of the year Sunday when the Bearcats fell to Georgia College, 8-7, at John Kurtz Field.
Georgia College improves to 24-10 overall and 12-6 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 29-8, 18-6. On Saturday, Lander won the first game of the series, 16-3, while the Bobcats claimed the second, 5-4.
GC's Christian Bragg (3-1) earned the win with one strikeout, two walks and three earned runs on three hits in three innings pitched. Jordan Brooks was awarded his second save of the season after striking out two, walking one and allowing one run on two hits in two innings.
Lander's Logan Pemberton (7-1) suffered the loss, striking out two, walking one and allowing four earned runs on five hits in two innings.
Georgia College took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a Cody Maas' two-RBI double that scored Clay Ardeeser and Daniel Bick, and a Jeremy Donaldson's single that drove in Maas. The Bobcats extended their lead to 5-0 in the second inning on Ardeeser's RBI single that plated Ryan Sabalaskeky and Maas' sacrifice fly that sent Bick home
Lander cut the GC lead to 5-2 in the fourth when Jeff May drove in Connor Lewis and Patrick Grady with a single to centerfield, then added another run in the fifth on Grady's RBI single that scored Graham Ramos.
The Bobcats came back in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs to make it 7-3 on Sabalaskey's two-run homer.
Lander closed the gap to 7-6 when, in the sixth, Erik Lunde drove in May, and Jacob Tisdale went home on a bases-loaded walk, then, in the seventh, Lawing stroked a solo homer.
Georgia College answered in the bottom of the inning with Sabalaskey's RBI single, but Lander came right back in the eighth with Lewis' run-scoring swing to make it 8-7.
For Lander, May batted 3-for-5, while Ramos, Lunde and Grady collected two hits apiece.
For GC, Maas and Rob Hogenkamp batted 3-for-4, while Sabalaskey, Bick and Donaldson had two hits each.
