Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Lander baseball team pounded out 16 hits to defeat Georgia College 16-3 in the first game and earned a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader split Saturday afternoon at John Kurtz Field. Georgia College won the second game, 5-4.
Lander moves to 29-7 overall and 18-5 in the PBC, while GC is 23-10, 11-6.
In the first game, Dylan Wolchick (7-1) earned the complete-game win after striking out eight, walking three and allowing two earned runs on seven hits in eight innings.
Georgia College's Patrick Olvaney (2-3) took the loss, striking out one and allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in two innings.
The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning as leadoff hitter Graham Ramos homered to left center field, and Colby Painter and Jeff May had RBI singles that scored Erik Lunde and Weston Lawing to give Lander a 3-0 lead.
Lander stretched the margin to 7-0 in the second on RBI singles by Patrick Grady, Lawing and Painter that scored Grady, Adam Davey and Connor Lewis. Lawing later scored on a wild pitch.
In the third inning, Lander made it 10-0 when Grady and Lewis both had RBI doubles that sent Ramos, Grady and Lunde across home plate.
Ramos led off the fifth inning with another solo homer and Painter's two-RBI single drove in Lawing and Lunder to extend the score to 13-0.
Georgia College made it 13-2 in the sixth inning on solo homers by Cody Maas and Jake Sandlin.
The Bearcats came back in the seventh with three more runs to go up 16-2 after Grady drove in Ramos, Lawing's sacrifice fly plated Lunde, and Painter doubled in Grady.
The Bobcats scored their final run in the ninth on Taylor Hinshaw's RBI single.
For Lander, Painter went 4-for-5, Ramos and Grady went 3-for-4, Lawing 2-for-5 and Lewis 2-for-6.
For GC, Daniel Blick batted 3-for-5, Maas 2-for-4 and Hinshaw 2-for-5.
In the second game, GC's Justin Blue (7-2) earned the win, striking out seven, walking four and allowing three earned runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings.
Lander's Chess Malone (7-2) suffered the loss after striking out five, walking two and allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of action.
GC jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning on Hinshaw's two-RBI single, then made it 3-0 in the second on Ryan Sabalaskey's RBI double.
Lander cut it to 3-1 in the third on Grady's RBI single that plated Ramos, then tied it at 3-all in the fifth on Lawing's RBI double that drove in Lewis and Grady.
Georgia College regained the lead at 5-3 in the bottom half of the fifth on Maas' sacrifice fly and Sandlin's run-scoring single.
Lander rallied in the ninth to cut the score to 5-4 when Lawing's RBI single scored Lunde.
For Lander, Lunde, Grady, Lawing and May had two hits each.
For Georgia College, Bick went 3-for-5, while Sabalaskey and Clay Ardeeser had two hits apiece.
