Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic's Chris Fritts' RBI double in the ninth inning scored Joey Lupus and gave the No. 21-ranked Pirates a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference victory over No. 10 Lander Sunday afternoon at Pirate Field.
Armstrong improves to 31-13 overall and 19-10 in the PBC, while Lander finishes the regular season at 34-14, 19-11. The Bearcats will next play in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which will be hosted at Lander's Dolny Stadium, May 8-12.
AASU's Caleb Woods (6-2) earned the victory after walking two and allowing one earned run on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
Lander's Chess Malone (8-3) took the loss after striking out seven, walking two and allowing four earned runs on nine hits in 8.2 innings of work.
Lander took a 2-0 lead when Connor Lewis drove in Weston Lawing in the fourth inning and Erik Lunde stroked a solo homer over the right field fence in the fifth.
The Pirates cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth on Fritts' RBI single that plated Cody Sherlin.
The Bearcats stretched their advantage to 3-1 in the sixth after Colby Painter scored on Graham Ramos' bases-loaded walk.
Armstrong tied the game at 3-all in the sixth when Zittrouer's RBI double plated Chase Butler and Casey Maloney.
For Lander, Lewis and Hyatt both batted 2-for-4.
For Armstrong, Fritts batted 3-for-5, while Zittrouer and Sherlin both went 2-for-4.
