Box Score GREENWOOD – Chris Hobbs scored three goals Saturday afternoon, including the game winner, to lead the Lander men's soccer team to a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while the Hurricanes slide to 1-4-1, 0-2.
Timm Hocke gave Lander a 1-0 lead just 9:34 into the game on an assist from Kevin Durand.
The Hurricanes came right back just two minutes later and tied it at 1-all when Charlie Curran scored on a Pablo Lajeunesse pass at 11:26.
Hobbs' first goal came less than one minute later at 12:05 off an assist from Russell Parker to put the Bearcats back up, 2-1.
GSW's Michael Corrigan netted the first of his two goals at 41:20 on a penalty kick to tie it at 2-2.
Hobbs put Lander up 3-2 at 60:29 off an assist from Brett Jankouskas, only to have GSW come back at 71:40 and tie it yet again at 3-3 on a Corrigan goal assisted by Lajeunesse.
Hobbs put the game-winning goal in the back of the net at 78:25 on Jankouskas' second assist of the game.
Lander outshot GSW, 24-7, and led in corner kicks, 5-3.
Hurricanes' goalkeeper Cade Jones tallied six saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen had two.
