DUE WEST, S.C. - The Lander baseball team pounded out 16 hits Wednesday afternoon to claim a 7-3 non-conference victory over Erskine College at Grier Field.
Both teams move to 4-4 overall on the season.
The Bearcats' Brandon Miller (2-1) earned the win with nine strikeouts, two walks and three earned runs on five hits in five complete innings.
Erskine's Taylor Wall (0-2) took the loss after striking out two, walking three and allowing three earned runs on six hits in two innings of work.
After Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Drew Willingham's solo home run, Lander came back with to claim a 3-1 lead in the second and never trailed again.
Jacob Tisdale's sacrifice fly plated Kevin Starr, Patrick Grady's RBI single scored Juan Montana and Erik Lunde went home on a bases-loaded walk.
Erskine cut the lead to 3-2 in the third on Willingham's RBI single, but Lander matched that in fifth when Jeff May scored on a Montana ground out for a 4-2 lead.
The Fleet came back with their final run in the fifth when Cody Spence walked, went to third on an error and scored on a passed ball.
AJ Nunziato's RBI double in the seventh plated Tisdale to give Lander a 5-3 lead, then, in the eighth, the Bearcats notched their final two runs when Jordan Owens, who tripled, scored on May's sacrifice fly, and Starr went home on a bases-loaded walk.
For Lander, Grady went 4-for-6 at the plate, while Nunziato batted 3-for-4, Starr 2-for-3 and Lunde 2-for-5.
For Erskine, Willingham, Cameron Yost, Will Huff and Phillip Herring had two hits each.
