Box Score GREENWOOD – The 19th-ranked Lander Lady Bearcats opened each half in spectacular fashion Wednesday night, so much so that a game-opening 22-4 run was actually upstaged in the second half.
Lander started the second half with a 26-2 run as the Lady Bearcats stayed unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play with a 98-48 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State behind Jasmine Judge's eight 3-pointers and 27 points.
Lander improved to 16-3 overall and 11-0 in the PBC. The Lady Bearcats now own a 10-game winning streak.
Armstrong Atlantic State fell to 12-8, 6-6.
Judge lit up the Horne Arena by making nine of 13 shots overall and eight of 12 from behind the arc. She matched the eight treys that she made in Lander's victory over second-ranked Clayton State last week.
Judge also led Lander's ferocious pressure defense with six of the team's 22 steals. The Lady Bearcats forced 35 turnovers while committing only 10.
Judge's 27 points matched her career high set Dec. 10, 2011, when he made a career-high nine 3-pointers against Southern Wesleyan. The senior guard now has a PBC career record 366 made 3-pointers.
Lady Bearcat guard Brittni Johnson scored 15 points on six of 10 shooting and added five steals. Johnson hit three of five from behind the arc as Lander made 14 of 29 from long range (48 percent).
Ciara Lyons and Mukia Myrick each added 12 points and four assists for the Lady Bearcats. Kami Phillips led Lander with six assists while Keondra Barnes paced the team with seven rebounds.
Mauri Wells had a big game for the Pirates, posting a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Wells made nine of 12 shots from the floor while her teammates hit only 11 of 32.
D.D. Gipson added 11 points for Armstrong.
Lander made 37 of 76 shots from the floor (49 percent) and 10 of 19 free throws (53 percent).
The Pirates hit 20 of 44 shots (46 percent), five of nine free throws (56 percent), and three of six from behind the arc (50 percent).
Each team had 35 rebounds.
Lander's starting five hit nine of their first 13 shots in building a commanding 23-6 lead in the game's first six minutes, leading by as much as 22-4.
Ten of those 23 points were scored by Johnson, who was 4-for-4 including a pair of 3s. Lyons had three steals and two baskets, Judge added a 3-pointer and two steals, and Myrick had six points including one 3. The reserves entered the game at the 14:09 mark with a healthy 17-point lead.
Ashley Watts fed Janyce Ealey inside for a layup, expanding the Lady Bearcat lead to 19 points, 25-6, with 13:24 left.
Armstrong used a 9-3 run to close within 28-15 on Gipson's two baskets, and a jumper and 3-pointer by Wells. The Pirates were within 12 points, 30-18, with 8:15 to go when Wells scored in the paint.
Lyons converted a three-point play off Myrick's mid-court steal, added another free throw, and made a layup off Johnson's steal to give Lander its first 20-point lead of the game at 38-18 at the 6:18 mark.
While the Lady Bearcats were missing six shots in a row, Armstrong was able to pull within 38-24 with 3:18 left on a basket by Demisha Mills.
But Lander quickly got things back together as Judge, Johnson and Judge again hit 3s during an 11-2 run to expand the lead to 49-26 with 1:43 to go. There was no more scoring in the first half and the Lady Bearcats had a 23-point lead at the break.
Lander started the second half even more impressively than the first, hitting nine of its first 10 shots in a 26-2 run to extend a 49-26 halftime lead to 75-28.
Judge got things started with a long 3, Johnson made a layup, Myrick hit a 3, Judge made one of two free throws, Small scored in the paint, Judge hit another 3, Small made two free throws and scored inside again, Judge made yet another 3, Barnes converted a layup off a long pass from Judge, and Judge hit her fourth trey of the second half. This run, much like the first half, lasted six minutes.
After Wells scored for Armstrong, Judge's steal and layup gave the Lady Bearcats 10 made shots in 11 attempts.
Lander hit the 80-point mark with 10:45 still left in the game on Myrick's layup, and Judge got all by herself in the left corner on a fast break off a steal by Phillips and made her fifth trey of the second half for a 51-point lead, 83-32, at the 10:29 mark.
The Lady Bearcat bench played the final 10 minutes.
Rachelle Rasley's 3 increased Lander's lead to 89-40 with four minutes left and the Lady Bearcats surpassed the 90-point mark when Precious Elkins hit a jump shot with 3:32 to go.
Phillips made a layup off a long pass from Watts, extending Lander's lead back to 50 points, 95-45, with 1:45 left.
