GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team opened the Jeff May Complex in fine fashion Wednesday afternoon when they remained unbeaten after defeating Erskine College, 5-0, in a non-conference game.
Lander stretches its win streak to 3-0, while Erskine drops to 1-1
Lander took a 1-0 lead at 4:13 when Jamie Shaw scored from the left side on an assist from Christina Barbour. It was Shaw's second goal of the season.
The Lady Bearcats increased the margin to 2-0 at 46:03 when Nina Morales got behind the Erskine goalkeeper and punched the ball in on an assist from Kendall Couch. It was Morales' second goal of the season.
Jenny Peterson stretched the lead to 3-0 at 54:34 when she scored her first goal of the season on Christina Barbour's missed attempt.
Sarah Piechocki netted her first goal of the season on a penalty kick at 66:41 to give the Lady Bearcats a 4-0 margin.
Lander's Lauren MacDonald scored the game's final goal on a 20-yard shot at 82:44.
The Lady Bearcats outshot Erskine, 21-1, and led in corner kicks, 6-2.
Erskine goalkeeper Katie Lyle had six saves.
