COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 17-ranked Columbus State baseball team completed its three-game Peach Belt Conference series sweep against Lander Monday afternoon when the Cougars downed the Bearcats, 10-0, at Charles F. Ragsdale Field.
The Cougars improve to 32-15 overall and 16-8 in the PBC, while Lander ends the regular season at 28-22, 11-12.
Both teams will advance to the PBC Tournament, which begins Sunday, May 8 at Columbus State. The brackets will be released later today.
CSU's Brodie Leibrandt (7-2) earned the complete-game shutout, while striking out seven, walking one and allowing just three hits.
Lander's Brandon Farquhar (4-3) suffered the loss after striking out three, walking four and allowing two earned runs on eight hits in five innings.
Columbus State scored two unearned runs in the first inning when Eric Weiss and Ryan Lewis both advanced home on throwing errors.
The Cougars extended their lead to 3-0 in the third after Bruce Alter's RBI single plated Lewis.
In the fourth, Columbus stretched the lead to 6-0 after Cameron Scott's RBI single scored Noah Watkins and Lewis followed with a two-RBI triple that pushed Scott and Eric Skinner home.
Cameron Griffin scored on a Skinner groundout in the fifth to make it 7-0 for the Cougars.
CSU tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to take an 9-0 led when Logan Dollar blasted a two-run homer, his second of the series, then Columbus State scored its final run in the seventh on Dollar's sacrifice fly that plated Weiss.
