FLORENCE - Jeff May's solo home run in the ninth-inning led the Lander baseball team to an 11-10 win Sunday afternoon in game one against No. 16 Francis Marion, then the Patriots came back to win the second game 6-0 in a PBC doubleheader at Cormell Field.
Lander moves to 19-16 overall and 7-7 in the PBC, while FMU is 26-9, 11-4.
In the first game, Lander's Michael White (2-1) earned the win in relief after striking out one, walking one and allowing two hits in 1.2 innings.
The Patriots' Patrick Mincey (1-2) took the loss after allowing one earned run on one hit in one inning pitched.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Kevin Childs' two-RBI single that plated Robert Skinner and Erik Lunde, followed by Cody McElhaney's shot to the right side that scored Jordan Owens.
Lander stretched the lead to 7-0 in the second behind Skinner's RBI double that pushed Lunde and Jacob Tisdale across the plate, followed by Owen's two-run, home run.
The Patriots came right back in the bottom of the inning with five runs to trim the lead to 7-5. Tyler Cappelmann popped an RBI single to third, Jeff Gaston's sacrifice fly scored Tyler Boyd, Dalton Gress went home on a throwing error then Michael Wilson and John Jones followed with RBI singles.
FMU made it 7-6 in the third when Buddy Sosnoskie advanced home on a groundout.
Lander made in 9-6 in the fourth on Childs' RBI double that scored Owens and Skinner.
Lander added another run in the eighth when Patrick Grady scored on Owens' RBI single.
FMU rallied to tie the game at 10-all in the eighth on RBI singles by Gaston and Wilson and a two-RBI single by Preston Shuey.
The Bearcats bounced back in the top of the ninth to win the game on May's homer.
For Lander, Owens hit 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI, Childs batted 3-for-3 with four RBI and Skinner went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
For the Patriots, Boyd went 3-for-5 and Gaston 3-for-3, while Wilson, Brock McCallister, Shuey and Sosnoskie all went 2-for-5.
In the second game, Jeffrey Stoner (5-0) was claimed the winning pitcher after striking out six, walking two and allowing five hits in seven scoreless innings.
Chris Thomas (4-4) was tagged the losing pitcher after striking out four, and allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
Francis Marion took a 4-0 lead when the Patriots scored one run each in the first four innings when Wilson scored on a throwing error, Sosnoskie on a wild pitch, Wilson again on a groundout and Boyd on Cappelmann's RBI single.
FMU made it 6-0 in the seventh when Cappelmann sored on a wild pitch and Jones' RBI single scored Wilson.
For FMU, Sosnoskie went 3-for-4, while Cappelmann was 2-for-3.
For Lander, McElhaney batted 2-for-4 with one double, while AJ Nunziato also went 2-for-4.
