JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Patrick Grady batted 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI and Jordan Owens hit 3-for-5 with one home run, one double and four RBI Tuesday afternoon to lead the Lander baseball team to an 8-4 non-conference victory over Carson-Newman at the Silver Diamond BC.
Lander improves to 18-14 overall, while the Eagles drop to 15-19.
Scott Elitzky (2-1) was awarded the win after striking out four and allowing no hits in two scoreless innings of work.
Carson-Newman's Evan Faithfull (1-5) took the loss as he struck out two, walked one and allowed two earned runs on one hit in two innings.
Lander took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Grady's two-run homer that scored Jacob Tisdale.
The Bearcats extended the lead to 6-0 with four runs in the fourth inning when Grady's second homer of the day sent Tisdale home, and Owens' two-RBI double to left field plated Robert Skinner and Marshall Creed.
The Eagles cut the Lander lead to 6-4 in the four-run fifth on Jonathan Dalton's grand slam.
Lander added two insurance runs in the sixth on Owens' two-run homer over the left field wall that pushed Skinner across the plate.
