YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team evened its record at 1-1 Tuesday night when the Bearcats dropped an 80-76 non-conference contest in overtime to Young Harris College.
Young Harris improves to 2-2 overall.
Dwight Tolbert led the Bearcat attack with a 22-point, nine-rebound performance, while David Pruett added 18 points and Darion Canty 13. Corey Wright and Jermel Kennedy each had seven rebounds for Lander.
Vince Martin led the Mountain Lions with a game-high 31 points, followed by Bryson Robertson's double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Steve Viterbo's 11 points.
Lander connected on 24-of-72 field goals for 33 percent, including 10-of-24 threes for 42 percent and 18-of-22 free throws for 82 percent.
Young Harris was 31-of-62 from the field (48 percent), including 5-of-20 three pointers (25 percent) and 13-of-20 free throws (65 percent).
Lander outrebounded the Mountain Lions, 47-41.
Martin forced the overtime when he drained a three pointer with 13 seconds remaining to knot the score at 68-68.
Lander regained the lead at 71-68 on Tolbert's three just seven seconds into the overtime.
Martin, who was fouled on a three-point attempt, sank all three at 4:22 to tie the game at 71-all.
Martin's basket at 2:46 gave YHC a 73-71 advantage, but Pruett tied it again at 73-73 on a layup at the 2:21 mark.
Martin sank the winning basket with a trey at 1:12 to make it 76-73, then Robertson netted a jumper at 1:12 to make it 78-73. Robertson followed with the front end of a one-and-one with 50 seconds remaining as the Mountain Lions took a 79-73 lead, then sank another free throw with nine seconds left to make it 80-73.
Lander's Pruett scored the game final basket when he nailed a three at the buzzer to make it 80-76.
The Bearcats will host Southern Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, in a non-conference game in Horne Arena.
