AMERICUS, Ga. - The Lander women's soccer team tied the school record for shutouts in a season Saturday when the Lady Bearcats defeated Georgia Southwestern, 2-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game at Hurricane Field. The shutout was the ninth of the year and ties the 2009 team that finished the season 11-4-2.
Lander improves to 11-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 3-11, 0-5.
After a scoreless first half, Christina Barbour nailed her seventh goal of the season, a shot to the far post from nine yards out, at 75:56.
Lara Middlebrook made it 2-0 at 88:46 when she scored her second goal of the season on a deflected cross from Barbour.
The Lady Bearcats outshot GSW, 11-1, and led in corner kicks, 9-0.
Lady Hurricane goalkeeper Amber Bahri totaled four saves.
Chelsea Beetch was credited with the shutout in goal, her seventh of the season. Beetch played the first half in Lander's other two shutouts.
