DUE WEST - Lander's Kendall Couch scored two second-half goals in a three-minute span Wednesday night to lead the unbeaten Lander women's soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference victory over Erskine College at Huggins Field.
Lander improves to 3-0, while Erskine drops to 0-2.
After a scoreless first half, Couch scored her first goal at the 64:45 mark when she broke free 25 yards out and blasted a shot in the left corner past Erskine goalie Si'Ara Washington. On a penalty kick three minutes later, Couch retrieved her own rebound off Erskine goalkeeper Bailey Miller and belted it in for her second score.
Lander's Katherine Baltz, this week's Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, earned the win in goal for the Bearcats. Washington made 11 saves on the afternoon for Erskine.
Lander outshot Erskine, 21-5.
The Lady Bearcats will host Armstrong Atlantic State University in their home-opener at 4:30 p.m., Saturday.
