SALISBURY, N.C. - Despite double-doubles by three different players, the Lander volleyball team dropped its season-opener at Catawba College Friday night, 3-2. Catawba won, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11.
Catawba improves to 2-0 overall, while Lander is 0-1.
Melissa McCracken led the Bearcat attack with 18 kills and 12 digs, while Magi Nottingham had 10 kills and 28 digs, and Candace LaRocca 45 assists and 13 digs. Madison Kubal totaled 27 digs, while Nottingham and Chelsey Corgan each had two service aces. Freshman Hannah Dederick contributed six blocks.
Catawba College was led by Kaitlyn Whitmer (15 kills, 13 assists) and Alli Parish (35 assists, 10 digs).
