GREENWOOD - The Lander men's soccer team won its Peach Belt Conference opener Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated North Georgia College & State University, 1-0.

Lander improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the PBC, while North Georgia drops to 4-1-3, 1-1-1.

The Bearcats' Craig Hughes scored the game's lone goal at 30:22 on an assist from Jamie Davison. It was Hughes' team-leading fifth goal of the season.

North Georgia outshot Lander, 11-6, and led in corner kicks, 9-1.

Lander goalkeeper Matthew Atkinson recorded six saves, while North Georgia's Rade Tanaskovic had one.
