Baseball claims 5-2 victory over Anderson University

ANDERSON - The Lander baseball team scored two runs each in the first and third innings Tuesday night to lead the Bearcats to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Anderson University at Memorial Stadium.

Lander improves to 22-17 overall, while Anderson slips to 17-32.

Brandon Farquhar (6-2) earned the win after striking out one, and allowing two hits in three innings pitched.

Anderson's Roy Frick suffered the loss, striking out two, and allowing two runs on three hits in two innings pitched.

Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Bud Lanier scored on a bases-loaded walk and Robert Skinner went home on Ryan McNulty's sacrifice fly.

The Bearcats stretched their lead to 4-0 in the third on Brooks Reames' two-RBI single.

Anderson cut the Lander lead to 4-1 in the seventh when Tony Price scored on a ground out.

Lander scored its final run in the ninth when Alan Abreu's RBI sngle plated Jordan Owens.

The Trojans trimmed the score to 5-2 on Thomas Padro's RBI single in the bottom of the final inning.

For Lander, Abreu went 2-for-4.
