PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Lander baseball team fell victim to UNC Pembroke's nine-run rally in the fifth and sixth innings Sunday as the Braves downed the Bearcat, 14-7, in the third game of the Peach Belt Conference contest.

UNCP improves to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 12-5, 0-3.

Ross Davis (1-2) suffered the loss as he struck out three, walked five and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Braves' Rudy Brown (2-1) earned the win as he struck out seven, walked one and allowed only one hit in 3.2 innings pitched.

Lander took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Pete Hernandez and Jordan Owens, which scored Alan Abreu and Bud Lanier

UNCP came back in the second inning to tie the game at 2-2 when Josh Haley scored on a wild pitch, followed by Kenny Mickens' RBI single.

Lander regained the lead at 4-2 in the third when Hernandez's RBI double scored Lanier and Owen's RBI single plated Hernandez. The Bearcats stretched the lead to 6-2 in the fifth on back-to-back home runs by Owens and Ryan McNulty.

UNCP rallied for five runs in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. Haley had a two-RBI single, while Seth Kivett and Jason Coker stroked RBI singles and Tom Porricelli's ground out drove in a run.

The Braves made it 11-6 in the sixth when Aaron Parnell and Coker had back-to-back doubles which drove in three runs and and Coker went home on a passed ball.

The Bearcats came back with one run in the seventh when Aaron Fludd's RBI single plated Lanier.

Pembroke closed the game with three runs in the eighth, highlighted by Haley's two-run homer over the left centerfield fence.

For Lander, Hernandez batted 2-for-5 with one double and Owens went 3-for-5 with one homer.

For UNCP, Haley went 4-for-5 with one homer and one double, while Parnell (2-for-5) and Coker (3-for-5) both doubled.
