AIKEN - The No. 16-ranked USC Aiken baseball team rallied for four runs in the eighth inning Sunday afternoon to defeat Lander, 12-10, in a Peach Belt Conference contest at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
In sweeping the three-game series, USCA improves to 16-7 overall and 8-1 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 13-8, 0-6.
The Pacers' Tyler Stephan (2-1) earned the win as he struck out five, walked one and allowed two runs (none earned) on two hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
Lander's Ben Runyon (1-1) took the loss as he allowed two earned runs on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
Lander's Alan Abreu (1-for-4, two RBI) and Jordan Owens (2-for-6, three RBI) both homered for the Bearcats, while Joe Tebaldi hit 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Aaron Fludd went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
For the Pacers, Travis Howard (4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI) and Nick Aranas (3-for-5, two runs five RBI) both homered, while Kyle Rice (1-for-4, two runs, one RBI) doubled.
The Pacers outhit Lander, 15-9.
Trailing 4-2 -- Lander got its first two runs when Fludd's groundout plated Pete Hernandez in the second and Robert Skinner scored on Ryan McNulty's third-inning fielder's choice -- Lander took a 5-4 lead in the fourth on Owen's three-run home run.
Lander added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 9-8 lead.
In the fifth, Ryan McNulty scored from third when Bud Lanier reached on an error, and Tebaldi scored on Abreu's sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, Fludd's two-RBI single scored Tebaldi and McNulty.
Lander's final run came in the ninth on Abreu's solo homer.
