SAVANNAH, Ga. - The tenth-ranked Lander women's basketball team won its 13th consecutive game Monday night when the Lady Bearcats placed four players in double figures in a 101-55 Peach Belt Conference victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Lander improves to 20-1 overall, breaking the 1980-81 team's record (19-1) as the best start in the history of the program. Lander is 13-0 in the PBC. Armstrong Atlantic slips to 7-14 overall and 4-9 in the PBC.
Mukia Myrick led the Bearcat attack with 18 points, while Jasmine Judge added 15 points, Ciara Lyons 12, and Brianna Webb 10. Shannon McKever almost recorded her 10th double-double of the season with nine points and 13 rebounds, while. Tasheba Butler added eight rebounds and Kaylyn Small had seven.
The Lady Pirates were led by Portia Jones and Arpine Amirkhanyan, who scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Amirkhanyan and Marissa Rimbert both led the team in rebounds with seven.
Lander rallied from a 13-9 deficit when Johnson's three pointer and Butler's tip-in gave Lander a 14-13 lead at 12:01.
Rimbert's jumper put AASU on top 15-14 at 11:48, then Lander went on an 8-0 run that gave the Lady Bearcats a 23-15 advantage on a pair of Myrick free throws at 8:25. Lander then scored eight unanswered points to take a 39-21 lead at 1:21 and led 42-21 at halftime.
The Lady Bearcats outscored AASU, 59-34, in the second half.
Lander connected on 33-of-68 field goals for 48.5 percent, including 10-of-22 three pointers for 45.5 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 25-of-38 free throws for 65.8 percent.
AASU was 21-of-66 from the field for 31.8 percent (4-of-14 from the three-point line) and sank 9-of-15 free throws for 60 percent.
