GREENWOOD - Despite out-shooting North Greenville University 27-2, the Lander women's soccer team needed Christina Barbour's late heroics Wednesday afternoon to pull out a victory.
Barbour's goal off Kelley Maupin's assist with only 4:24 remaining gave the Lady Bearcats (4-1-1) a 2-1 win over the Crusaders (4-3) in a non-conference match at Lander.
Barbour scored in front of the goal off Maupin's cross from the right side. It was Barbour's fourth goal of the season.
North Greenville's Leah Ward took only the team's second shot of the day in the final seconds, but the ball went high.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead at the 18:44 mark on a goal by Hayley Williams off an assist from Ward. The goal came on a close-up shot from the left side.
Lander tied the game at 1-1 at the 35:48 mark when Maupin scored her first goal of the season after having a shot blocked.
The Lady Bearcats out-shot North Greenville 11-1 in the first half and 16-1 in the second half. But the game stayed tied under the five-minute mark.
Chelsea Beetch did not record a save for Lander. The Crusaders' Jessica Binkley had 10 stops.
The Lady Bearcats had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
