GREENWOOD - Wingate's Adam Cunningham scored with 2:30 left in the game, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Lander Wednesday night.
Wingate improved to 4-1 on the season while the Bearcats fell to 3-3.
Cunningham scored on a shot in front of the goal from about 15 yards out. It was his first goal of the season.
Wingate's Junior Nyemb had already hit the crossbar and the post on separate shots in the first half before scoring the Bulldogs' first goal on a header off Felippe Imperatriz's corner kick at the 29:44 mark. It was Nyemb's fourth goal of the season.
A corner kick also helped Lander score the tying goal when Alex Pethick found the back of the net at the 38:50 mark off Samy Beydoun's corner kick. Pethick's first goal of the season came from approximately 20 yards out from the right side. It was also the first goal of Pethick's Lander career.
The first close call of the second half came when Wingate's Rory Green hit the crossbar with a shot. The Bearcats also had scoring opportunities, but kicked several shots high or wide.
But Cunningham nailed the game winner with a hard shot that was unassisted.
The Bulldogs out-shot Lander 15-6, with a 10-2 advantage in the second half. Wingate also had a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.
Joey Calandra had two saves for Wingate while Matthew Atkinson had five stops for the Bearcats.
