GREENWOOD - Christina Barbour and Jamie Shaw scored two goals each Tuesday night to lead the Lander women's soccer team to a 5-0 season-opening victory over Erskine College in a non-conference contest.

Lander is 1-0 and Erskine 0-1.

Barbour, who missed last season, led the Bearcats off with a goal at 11:13 on an assist from Kelley Maupin. The Bearcats extended the lead to 2-0 when Christin Moss scored on an assist from Kendall Couch at 14:51. The Lady Bearcats scored their final goal of the half at 34:47 on Shaw's unassisted goal.

Lander scored its first goal of the second half after barely one minute had elapsed when Barbour found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. Shaw netted Lander's final goal on an assist from Katariina Lyytikainen at 81:26.

Lander outshot the Flying Fleet, 25-7, and led in corner kicks, 6-1.

Bearcat goalkeeper Chelsea Beetch posted four saves in 70:11 minutes of play. Erskine goalkeeper Si'Ara had nine saves.

Lander will travel to Anderson University for a 7 p.m. non-conference game on Saturday, Sept.  5.
