AIKEN - The Lander baseball team jumped on USC Aiken early, but the No. 14 Pacers rallied for five runs in the seventh inning en route to an 11-6 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Bearcats at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USCA completes the three-game series sweep and improves to 33-14 overall and 16-8 in the PBC, while Lander is 25-20, 8-14.
The Pacer's Jeremy Smith (6-3) was awarded the win after striking out one, walking one and allowing two earned runs on four hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
Lander's David Glover (1-2) took the loss as he walked two and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead on Nate Mangiapane's RBI single and made it 2-0 in the second when Jeff Caskey scored on a wild pitch. Lander stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Gabe McCann stole home and Caskey crossed the plate on a passed ball.
The Pacers cut the lead to 4-3 in th fourth on Kevin Raborn's solo homer to left field and Nick Aranas' two-run double. USCA tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth on Raborn's second homer of the day.
Lander's final lead of the day came at 5-4 in the sixth on Hunter Dowis' RBI single.
The five-run seventh inning was too much for the Bearcats to overcome.
Caskey added a solo homer in the eighth for the Bearcats.
For Lander, Caskey went 4-for-4 with one homer, four runs scored and one RBI; Bud Lanier batted 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI; and Mangiapane went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
For USCA, Raborn went 3-for-4 with two homers, four runs scored and two RBI, while Travis Howard (2-for-5, two RBI), Aranas (2-for-5, two runs, one RBI), Jamie Benjamin (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Chris Grandinetti (1-for-4, one run, two RBI) and John Sherrer (1-for-4, two RBI) all doubled.
