MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 9-ranked Georgia College & State University baseball team claimed the third game of its three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Lander Monday afternoon when they defeated the Bearcats, 11-0, at John Kurtz Field.
Georgia College improves to 23-9 overall and 10-5 in the PBC, while Lander is 20-12, 6-7.
Clete Jessup (4-1) earned the victory on the mound for GCSU as he struck out seven and allowed eight hits in eight innings pitched.
Lander's Derek Thackston (0-1) took the loss as he struck out two, walked five and allowed four earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
For GCSU, Steve Muoio went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and one RBI; and Chandler Snell went 4-for-4 with one double, three runs scored and two RBI. Danny McCorkell went 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI and Derek Johns went 1-for-3 with one run and three RBI.
For Lander, Bud Lanier went 2-for-4 with one double, while Brian Bender went 2-for-4.
GCSU, which outhit the Bearcats, 11-8, scored one run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. The Bobcats then added three in the sixth and two ore in the seventh to complete the scoring.
