AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 18 ranked Lander baseball team suffered its first shutout of the season Saturday afternoon when Augusta State downed the Bearcats, 4-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game.
Augusta State improves to 15-13 overall and 4-3 in the PBC, while Lander is 18-8, 4-4.
The Jags scored one run each in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Chris Tyler (3-1) earned the win as he struck out seven, walked one and allowed eight hits in the complete nine innings.
Lander's Drew Elliott (3-1) suffered the loss as he walked one and allowed three earned runs on four hits in six innings pitched.
For Lander, Nate Mangiapane went 2-for-4 with one double, while Gabe McCann went 3-for-4 and Jeff Caskey 2-for-3.
ASU's Alex Walker went 1-for-3 with one double, while Jorge Virguez, Shannon Wilkerson, Tony Baker and Evan Smith had RBI singles.
