WINGATE, N.C. - The No. 17 Lander baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon when the Bearcats lost to Wingate University, 6-4, in a non-conference game at Ron Christopher Stadium.
Wingate improves to 12-11 overall, while the Bearcats move to 17-6.
Jim Ealy (1-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs as he struck out five, walked one and allowed five hits in six innings pitched.
Lander's Chris Thomas (2-1) suffered the loss, striking out two, walking one and allowing three earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings of work.
The Bearcats tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning when Josh Lovvorn plated Jeff Caskey on an RBI single and Brian Bender scored on a Jordan Owens RBI single.
Wingate regained the lead at 4-2 in the bottom of the third and extended the lead to 5-2 in the fourth.
Lander rallied in the seventh with two runs when Bender and Caskey crossed the plate on Lovvorn's single to left field.
For Lander, Lovvorn went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Owens went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Caskey was 2-for-3.
