GREENWOOD - The No. 22-ranked Lander baseball team manufactured 22 runs Tuesday afternoon as they swept Emmanuel College, 12-2 and 10-2, in a non-conference doubleheader at Legion Field. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)
Lander improves to 12-3 overall, while Emmanuel falls to 7-9.
In the first game, Chris Thomas (1-0) earned the victory as he struck out four, walked one and allowed just one earned run on four hits in five complete innings.
Emmanuel's Bobby Willis (1-2) took the loss as he walked four and allowed six earned runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Lander, which scored two runs in the first inning, three each in the second and third and four in the fifth, out-hit the Lions, 12-4.
For Lander, AJ Nunziato went 2-for-3 with one homerun, three runs scored and two RBI; Brian Bender (2-for-3, one run scored, one RBI), Jordan Owens (3-for-4, one run, two RBI) and Jeff Caskey (2-for-3, one run, two RBI) all doubled. Gabe McCann went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
For Emmanuel, Jordan Beatty went 1-for-2 with one double and Jeremy King went 1-for-3 with one double.
In the second game, The Bearcats scored four runs each in the first and fourth innings and one each in the fifth and sixth to preserve the sweep.
Michael White (1-0) recorded the victory on the mound as he struck out four, walked three and allowed just four hits in five innings pitched.
Emmanuel's Jeff Davis (0-1) suffered the loss as he struck out three, walked three and allowed five earned runs on four hits in three innings pitched.
For the Bearcats, Caskey went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run scored and one RBI, and Robert Skinner went 2-for-3 with one double, two runs scored and two RBI. Devin Ridlehoover went 2-for-4, with two runs scored and one RBI and Nate Mangiapane went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Emmanuel's Tyler Langford went 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI, while Kenneth Blackwell (2-for-4, one run) and Travis Calloway (1-for-1) both doubled.
Lander out-hit the Lions, 9-6.
