GREENWOOD - The No. 27-ranked Lander baseball team extended its winning streak to six games Tuesday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Benedict College, 10-2, in a non-conference game at Legion Field.

Lander improves to 6-1, while Benedict drops to 2-1.

Drew Elliott (1-0) earned the victory for Lander as he struck out six and walked two, while allowing just one hit in five inning of shutout ball.

Benedict's Justin Smalls (0-1) faced only two batters in taking the loss. He walked both.

Lander jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Gabe McCann had an RBI double, Josh Lovvorn and Robert Skinner each had RBI singles and Bud Lanier registered a sacrifice fly.

The Bearcats added two runs in the second on RBI singles by Devin Ridlehoover and AJ Nunziato.

Lander stretched the lead to 8-0 in the fifth when Skinner and Lanier scored on sacrifice flies by Jeff Caskey and Brian Bender.

With bases loaded in the sixth McCann crossed the plate on Brooks Reames RBI single and Skinner went home on a Bender walk.

Benedict scored its two runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Chris Moye and Chris Miller.

For Lander, Nunziato went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI, while Ridlehoover (2-for-4, one RBI), McCann (1-for-3, one RBI) and Skinner (3-for-5, one RBI) all doubled.

Benedict, which was held to four hits, got singles from Ryan Sharp, Jordan, Moye and William Thomas.
