Small leads Lady Bearcats past Brewton-Parker

MORROW, Ga. - Kaylyn Small scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and five other Lady Bearcats scored in double figures Wednesday afternoon as the Lander women's basketball team defeated Brewton-Parker, 99-59, in a non-conference game at the Clayton State Classic.

Lander improves to 8-1 overall, while Brewton Parker slips to 3-9.

Small connected on 6-of-8 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws to lead the Bearcats. Ciara Lyons added 14 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Keondra Barnes netted 12 points and five rebounds, Jasmine Judge 11 points and four steals, and Shannon McKever and Brittni Johnson 10 points each.

Zenata Howard and Angelica Howard netted 13 points each, while Howard and Erica Brown each grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Brewton-Parker.

Lander jumped out to a 8-3 lead on a three pointer by Jasmine Judge at 18:35, but Brewton-Parker came back and tied the game at 9-9 on a layup by Candace Barham. Brewton-Parker came back and took a 17-11 advantage on a layup by Erica Brown at 12:42.

The Lady Bearcats eased back and took their next lead at 22-21 on a Brittni Johnson layup, then never trailed again en route to a 44-35 halftime lead.

Lander took a 50-38 lead at 17:55 left in the game on Judge's three pointer and were never seriously challenged afterwards. Lander posted its biggest lead of the game at 99-59 (40 points) on a Keondra Barnes jumper with 1:51 remaining.

Lander, which led 44-35 at halftime, connected on 32-of-75 field goals for 42.7 percent, including 9-of-21 three pointers for 42.9 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 26-of-38 free throws for 68.4 percent.

Brewton-Parker made 20-of-49 floor shots for 40.8 percent, including 2-of-13 threes for 15.4 percent. Brewton-Parker also made 17-of-29 foul shots for 60.7 percent.
