GAFFNEY - The Lander volleyball team improved to 6-1 overall on the season Saturday when the Bearcats defeated Carson-Newman, 3-2, and downed Limestone, 3-0, during the second day of the Southeast Crossover at Limestone. Kay Stewart and Magi Nottingham were named to the all-tournament team.
Lander downed Carson-Newman, 25-12, 19-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-13. Kerri Sorensen had 17 kills and 16 digs and Stewart added 15 kills and eight solo blocks. Ashley Ferry had 15 digs, Candace LaRocca led the team in assists with 45, while Nottingham had eight kills and four solo blocks, and Kendall Eayrs recorded three solo blocks.
The Bearcats downed Limestone, 25-17, 25-17, 25-12. Stewart led the way with 11 kills, three solo blocks and three block assists; Ferry totaled 10 kills and 14 digs; Nottingham had eight kills and nine digs; LaRocca had 27 assists and 12 digs; and Marina Camps had 21 digs.
