GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lander volleyball team improved to 9-1 Friday night when the Bearcats defeated host Tusculum College, 3-1, and Lees-McRae, 3-1, on the first day of the Tusculum College Volleyball Classic. Lander triumphed over Tusculum, 25-16, 25-21, 12-25, 25-20, then downed Lees-McRae, 23-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20.
Against Tusculum, Kay Stewart led the Bearcats with 10 kills and five solo blocks, while Magi Nottingham added eight kills and eight digs; Marina Camps 12 digs and two aces; and Candace LaRocca 28 assists and nine digs.
Against Lees-McRae, Nottingham had 12 kills and 15 digs; Kerri Sorensen 12 kills and 11 digs; Stewart nine kills; Kendall Eayrs five kills, six solo blocks and two assists; Mallory Wasik, nine kills and 13 digs; LaRocca, 44 assists and 17 digs; and Ashley Ferry, 21 digs and two service aces.
Lander is scheduled to play Montevallo at 2 p.m. Saturday and Christian Brothers at 4.
