Armstrong Atlantic baseball defeats Lander, 10-2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Joey Davis collected a career-high five hits and seven RBI, while Ross Partee hurled a complete game as the Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad picked up a 10-2 win over visiting Lander on Friday afternoon at Pirate Field.

The win moves the Pirates (26-20, 13-12 PBC) one victory away from earning a spot into the 2008 Peach Belt Conference tournament. A split tomorrow with the Bearcats (19-32, 6-19 PBC) will earn AASU the sixth seed, while a sweep would put the Pirates into the tournament as the fifth seed.

The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings thanks to Davis, who delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the first and a
two-RBI single in the second inning. The two teams traded runs in the fourth, but AASU put the game out of reach in the seventh inning as Nick Pyron delivered an RBI double, then Davis followed three batters later with his third grand slam of the season, launching a shot to left that ended the day of Daniel Hinchberger (5-4). Hinchberger gave up 15 hits and nine runs – eight earned – in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Bearcats.

Partee, meanwhile, improved to 7-3 on the season with the complete-game seven-hitter, giving up two runs – one earned – while striking out four in his final home start for the Pirates.

Seven different starters had multi-hit games for the Pirates as Josh Wilson went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and Davis' had five hits.

Gabe McCann had a double and an RBI for the Bearcats, while T.J.Guinan drove in a run with a single.

The two teams will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader from Pirate Field. First pitch will be at noon, moving up
an hour to try and complete the two games before anticipated rainshowers move into the area late Saturday afternoon.
