Baseball opens PBC season with 5-4 win over GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. - The Lander baseball team endured a six-hour delay in getting the game started, but outlasted the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes for a 5-4 come-from-behind victory in the opening contest in Peach Belt Conference play for both schools.

Lander, which faces GSW in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. today (Sunday), improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the PBC. The Hurricanes fall to 2-10, 0-1.

Craig Roberson (2-0) earned the victory in relief. Daniel Hinchberger started the game and pitched six innings. The Hurricanes scored three unearned runs against Hinchberger.

Down 3-1, Lander scored four runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good. Gabe McCann keyed the rally with a two-run single and was followed by TJ Guinan's RBI triple.
