GREENWOOD – The Newberry women's soccer team scored two second-half goals Wednesday night to defeat host Lander, 2-0, in a non-conference game.
Newberry improves to 8-7-1 overall, while Lander drops to 6-7-1.
Allie Johns netted the game-winner at 78:19 when she scored from in front of the goal on a deflected shot by teammate Meagan Heney.
The Indians made it 2-0 when Najla Bubtana headed in a long pass from Sara Geisman at 87:50.
Newberry outshot Lander, 17-7, and led in corner kicks, 5-2.
Lander goalkeeper Katherine Baltz recorded six saves, while Newberry's Emily Rhoads had four.
The Indians played the final 26 minutes without head coach Karrie Miller, who was ejected from the game at 63:14 when she received a red card.
