DAHLONEGA, Ga. –Avram Allen scored two goals off the bench, pacing North Georgia College & State University to a 2-0 upset of seventh-ranked Lander in Peach Belt Conference soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Lander drops to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the PBC, while North Georgia improves to 4-5-1, 1-0.
Lander controlled the match for much of the first half, until Allen subbed into the contest in the 31st minute. After a Bradley Rose shot that hit the post rebounded away from Lander goalkeeper Garrett Daum, Allen was there to put the first goal on the board for the Saints in hte 32nd minute.
The two teams battled for the next 43 minutes, until Allen struck again in the 75th minute. After a shot attempt was saved by North Georgia goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey, the senior launched a punt from end-to-end, finding Allen running in the box. The junior beat his mark to the ball, punching the ball past Daum for a 2-0 lead.
The shutout was the second consecutive shutout registered by Kirksey and the fourth of the season. The region victory was the second consecutive victory by the Saints over a regionally-ranked opponent, and third of the season.
