JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.----The Lander volleyball team picked up two more victories Saturday at the Labor Day Tournament, hosted by Carson-Newman College. Lander downed the University of Charleston, 3-2, in the first game, then defeated Lincoln Memorial, 3-0. The Bearcats Kay Stewart was named to the all-tournament team.
Lander defeated Charleston, 18-30, 30-22, 31-29, 20-30, 18-16, then blanked LMU, 30-20, 30-17, 32-30. Lander is 8-1 overall.
Against Charleston, Mallory Wasik and Andrea Griffin had 13 and 12 kills respectively while Candace LaRocca added 44 assists. Melissa Trippany had 27 digs for the Bearcats, while Stewart had three solo blocks and seven assists.
Against LMU, Stewart had 12 kills, one solo block and two block assists, Kerri Sorensen added 11 kills, LaRocca totaled 38 assists and five service aces, Trippany 18 digs and Sara Senn 10 digs and four block assists.
