GREENWOOD – Freshman forward Aaron Brittain scored two goals Saturday to lead the No. 23 ranked Lander Bearcats to a 6-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Erskine Flying Fleet.
Lander improved to 1-0-1 while Erskine fell to 0-3-1.
The Bearcats had several scoring opportunities in the first half before breaking through with one minute left when Brittain nailed the ball into the right corner of the net off an assist from Jamie Ramm.
Ryan Thorman scored less than three minutes into the second half on a header off a corner kick from Jamie Davison.
Brittain scored with 31:42 left in the game off an assist from Craig Hughes for a 3-0 lead. It was Brittain's team-leading third goal of the season. He also scored when Lander tied Queens 1-1 earlier in the week.
With 28 minutes left, Hughes scored a spectacular goal when he rifled a long shot over the goalkeeper's head into the right-hard corner of the net off an assist from Thorman.
Ramm scored off an assist from Christian Mason with 21 minutes left and Nick Cooke nailed a penalty kick with 3:15 to go for Lander's final goal.
The Bearcats out-shot Erskine 19-2 and had 17 corner kicks to the Fleet's three.
Garrett Daum had one save for Lander as he recorded his first shutout of the season. Erskine goalkeepers Jimmy Turner and Drew Annas combined for five saves.
