JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.----The Lander volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when it split its two games at the Carson-Newman Labor Day Tournament.
Lander defeated Alderson-Broadus, 30-25, 27-30, 30-21, 30-11, in the first game, then lost to host Carson-Newman, 26-30, 30-16, 30-21, 30-23.
Lander, which will play two more games on Saturday, moves to 6-1 overall.
Against Alderson-Broaddus, Kay Stewart had 17 kills and 3.5 blocks, while Candace LaRocca registered 50 assists and Melissa Trippany had 28 digs.
Against Carson-Newman, Stewart had 13 kills and 2.5 blocks, while LaRocca tallied 37 assists, Trippany four service aces and Ashley Ferry 11 digs.
