ANDERSON, S.C.----The Lander women's volleyball team kicked off the 2007 season with 3-0 victories against Salem (W.Va.) International and Anderson University in its first games at the Anderson University Invitational on Friday night. Lander outscored Salem, 30-23, 30-8, 30-24, then defeated Anderson, 30-21, 30-25, 30-23.
Against Salem, Andrea Griffin led the Bearcats with seven kills, while Kerri Sorensen and Kay Stewart added six each. Stewart also had 2.5 blocks, while Candace LaRocca led the team in assists with 25. Marina Camps added 17 digs and seven service aces.
Against Anderson, Mallory Wasik had 12 kills and Griffin eight, while LaRocca had 25 assists and Sorensen and Sara Senn had 11 digs each. Stewart and Griffin recorded two block solos and two block assists each.
On Saturday, Lander will face Claflin University at 10 a.m. and North Greenville at 2 p.m.
