WINGATE, N.C.----Jerome Henley doubled, then scored the game-winning run on a Lander error Tuesday night to lead the Wingate baseball team to a 12-11 non-conference victory over Lander at Christopher Stadium.
Lander drops to 10-19 overall, while Wingate improves to 14-15.
Wingate's Zak Laws (2-3) earned the victory, striking out two, walking one and allowing no runs on two hits in three innings pitched. The Bearcats' Evan Christian (0-1) took the loss as he struck out two, walked two and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in three innings pitched.
Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first when Jonathan Myers singled, advanced on a ground out then scored on Jesse Barbaro's two-run homer.
After Wingate cut the margin to 2-1 in the bottom of the first, Lander scored five runs to take a 7-1 lead in the second inning.
Lander built its lead to 9-6 with two runs in the fourth inning then added two more runs in the sixth for a 11-6 lead.
Wingate stormed back with one run in the seventh, three in the eighth and tied Lander at 11-11 with one run in the bottom of the ninth.
For Lander, Jesse Barbaro went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs scored and three RBI, while T.J. Guinan went 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI; and Jonathan Myers went 3-for-5 with one double and two runs scored. Justin King went 4-for-7 with two RBI and Brendan O'Connor went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
For Wingate, Jay Barnes (3-for-5, two runs) had one home run and one double, while , Josh Benton (2-for-6, two runs) doubled.
