GAFFNEY, S.C.-- In a game that saw 42 runs scored, Limestone College defeated Lander, 25-17, Wednesday in a non-conference contest.
Limestone improves to 5-3 for the season while the Bearcats drop to 2-4.
Alex Dergins got the win for the Saints while Lander's Justin Altman (0-1) took the loss.
Limestone scored six runs in the bottom of the first. Lander answered with a run in the second, but the Saints built their lead to 11-1 at the bottom of the inning. Lander scored three more runs in the third while Limestone had one.
The Bearcats scored 12 runs in the fifth inning. Limestone managed to add six runs to their total in the same inning, and went on to score four runs in the sixth and three in the eighth. Lander finished with one run in the top of the ninth.
Designated hitter Adam McSwain was 4-for-5 for the Saints with a double, a homerun, and eight RBIs. First baseman Phillip Soden was 5-for-6 at bat with three doubles and four RBIs. Catcher Kyle Brewer and second baseman Daniel Lydon also hit homeruns for the Saints. Lydon had seven RBIs for the day while Soden and third baseman Taylor Cook each had four.
Lander's designated hitter, Chris Munn, was 2-for-3, as he hit two homeruns and batted in two runs. Second baseman Jonathan Myers and first baseman Jesse Barbaro also hit homers. Barbaro led his team with three RBIs.
