CHARLOTTE, N.C.----Houston Wright scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander men's basketball team to a 63-53 non-conference victory against previously unbeaten University of Indianapolis in the Queens Holiday Tournament. The win was Coach Bruce Evans' 50th in his four-year career at Lander.
Lander, which improves to 4-4 overall, will face Queens, an 82-77 winner over West Virginia State, in Sunday's 5:30 p.m. championship game. The Greyhounds fall to 6-1.
Ford "Scooter" Lawrence added 13 points and five rebounds for Lander, while Dane Sparrow netted 11 points and Brenton Harris grabbed seven rebounds.
Deandre Brock and Justin Barnard scored 19 and 18 points respectively to lead Indianapolis.
Lander, which led 28-23 at halftime, made 20-of-54 field goals, including 7-of-24 three pointers and 16-of-20 free throws. Indianapolis made 20-of-52 field goals, including 8-of-28 three-point shots. Indianapolis also made 5-of-7 free throws.
