GREENWOOD----Candace LaRocca put on a serving clinic Saturday afternoon and led the Lander volleyball team to a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Augusta State in the Bearcats' regular-season finale in Horne Arena. Lander won, 30-26, 30-17, 30-23.
After Lander won a back-and-forth game one, 30-26, LaRocca started at serve in the second game for the Bearcats. Behind LaRocca's seven service aces, Lander built up a 17-0 advantage then cruised to a 30-17 win. In the third game, Lander jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed.
Lander improves to 22-9 overall and 6-4 in the PBC, while Augusta State drops to 16-18, 2-8.
Ashley Ferry led the Bearcats with 16 kills, nine digs and three block assists, while Andrea Griffin added 12 kills, three solo blocks and five block assists. LaRocca finished with eight service aces, 32 assists, 10 digs and four block assists. Marina Camps and Melissa Trippany each posted 14 digs, while Kay Stewart had two solo blocks and six block assists and Andrea Griffin three solo blocks and five block assists.
Augusta State was led by Jessica Howard (14 kills), Lindsey Weider (17 digs, 1 service ace), Jessica Lowes (22 assists, 11 digs), Rachel Dyer (10 digs, 1 service ace), and Lindsay Rader (7 digs, 2 service aces).
Lander will host the Peach Belt Conference tournament on Nov. 10-11 in Horne Arena.
