BANNER ELK, N.C – Lander senior libero Melissa Trippany tied the Peach Belt Conference career digs record Saturday when the Lady Bearcats split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches against Anderson University and Lees-McRae.
Trippany recorded 61 digs in the two games, giving her 2,248 in her career and tying her with former Francis Marion player Jessica Strader. Trippany will break the PBC record with her first dig Wednesday night at home versus Mars Hill.
Lander defeated Anderson 26-30, 30-19, 30-19, 30-16 Saturday morning. Kay Stewart had 15 kills, four solo blocks, and 10 block assists, while Kerri Sorenson had 10 kills, three solo blocks, and five block assists. Candace LaRocca had 50 assists and three service aces, Sara Senn had 12 kills and two service aces, Trippany had 35 digs, and Marina Camps 24 digs.
Lander lost a heart-breaker Saturday afternoon with Lees-McRae winning 23-30, 30-23, 30-27, 26-30, 17-15. The Lady Bearcats fell to 15-6 on the season. Trippany had 26 digs in the game to tie Strader's record.
Stewart had 20 kills, three solo blocks and one block assist in the Lees-McRae match, Sorenson had 15 kills, LaRocca contibuted 48 assists, and Andrea Griffin had 13 kills, three solo blocks, and three block assists.
