NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lander women's soccer team saw its five-game win streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Lady Bearcats lost to Newberry, 2-0, in a non-conference contest.
Newberry improves to 5-3-4 overall, while Lander drops to 7-2.
Newberry's Brooke Tumlin scored on a header in the 26th minute and the Lady Indians stretched the margin to 2-0 two minutes later when Lauren Carbonell scored on a pass from Inga Woiwode on the left side of the goal. Woiwode and Sara Griffith both had assists on Tumlin's goal. Danielle Beckerle, who had five saves, recorded her third shutout of the season in the victory.
Lander goalkeeper Rachael Hine tallied five saves.
Newberry outshot Lander, 11-10, and led the Lady Bearcats in corner kicks, 7-5.
