Lady Bearcats cruise past Flying Fleet, 82-61

DUE WEST, SC- Junior guard Tiara Good scored a game-high 24 points, leading four Lander players in double-figures Monday night as the Lady Bearcats went on to defeat Erskine College, 82-61, in non-conference game at at Belk Arena.

With the win, Lander improves to 9-8 overall while the Fleet drop to 4-10.

Good connected on 9-of-21 field goals and 3-of-3 free throws to pace Lander. Stephanie Ponds added 15 points and six rebounds in the victory, while Bryony Crouch and Jasmine Collier scored 12 each. Tierra Kirkland led Lander in rebounds with nine.

Erskine was led by Lauren Brendle and Kristy Vaughn, who scored 12 points each, while Audrey Timmerman netted 11. Vaughn led the Lady Fleet in rebounds with eight.

The Fleet trailed by 18 at halftime as the Bearcats raced to the locker room with a 43-25 lead, however, the Fleet showed that had some fight as they mounted a 14-2 run to cut the margin to 12 at 58-46, but that's as close as the Fleet would get.

In response to Erskine's 14-2 run, Lander hit three consecutive three-point field goals to stretch the lead to 67-46, and from that point took control of the game.

The Bearcats shot 43.4 percent (33-of-76) for the game while holding the Fleet to 36.9 percent (24-of-65) for the game. The Bearcats also claimed a 47-41 advantage on the boards and forced 20 Erskine turnovers.

The Bearcats made 11 three-point shots in the contest.
