AUGUSTA, Ga.----The Lander volleyball team won its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season Friday night when the Bearcats defeated Augusta State University, 3-0 (30-19, 30-26, 30-20) in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Lander improves to 16-6 overall and 1-4 in the PBC, while the Lady Jaguars drop to 7-10, 0-6.
Kay Stewart led the Lander attack with a game-high 16 kills, one solo block and four block assists, while Kerri Sorensen added 10 kills and six digs. Jennifer (JJ) Edwards had a high 41 assists and 12 digs, while Sara Senn recorded 18 digs and nine kills. Melissa Trippany had a game-high 19 digs.
Augusta State was led by Sarah Lobstein (14 kills, 13 digs), Jessica Lowes (four kills, 21 assists), Grace Hornsby (12 digs), Lindsey Weider (12 digs) and Heather Lawrence (11 digs, three service aces).
Lander travels to USC Aiken for a 3 p.m. PBC contest on Saturday, Sept. 30.
