DUE WEST, SC- Freshman forward Adam Arthur scored one goal and added one assist to lead No.14 Lander to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Erskine Saturday at Huggins Field.
Lander improves to 3-0 overall, while Erskine starts the season at 0-1.
The Bearcats opened the scoring early as Christian Mason struck just 11 seconds into the match to put the Bearcats ahead 1-0 off of a pass from teammate Drew Courtney. The Bearcats struck again only minutes later as Adam Arthur slipped the ball past goalkeeper Jesse Kraay to put the Bearcats ahead 2-0, with the match only four minutes old.
From there, the match settled in and both teams created scoring chances. The Fleet's initial attempt came in the 23rd minute, as midfielder Dane Chancey had a shot saved by Lander goalkeeper Garrett Daum. Then, in the 29th minute, Lander was awarded a penalty kick and Nick Cooke converted the attempt to put the Bearcats ahead 3-0, which set the halftime tally.
Erskine cut the margin to 3-1 in the 67th minute when Ed Joyce scored on an assist from Sam Bodine.
Lander's K.C. Dunbaker scored the Bearcats' final goal in the 89th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Arthur.
