GREENWOOD----The Lander baseball team pounded out 16 hits Wednesday afternoon as first-year head coach Bill Jarman collected his first collegiate victory with a 13-2 non-conference win over Claflin University at Legion Field.

Lander improves to 1-1, while Claflin drops to 0-6.

Chris Munn (1-0) picked up the victory, striking out five, walking two and allowing two earned runs on four hits in six complete innings. Chris Martinez (0-2) took the loss, striking out two, walking four and allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 2.2 innings pitched.

Lander took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when the Bearcats loaded the bases and James Compo singled in Radley Raven and Jesse Barbaro. The Bearcats increased their lead to 6-0 in the third inning when Compo tripled in Adam Hutchins, and Ryan Brisby, Kevin Davis and Malcolm McLeod all added RBI singles.

Claflin cut the lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning when Rafael Outler singled in Curtis Hill and Jaime Aimar.

Lander added two more runs in the fourth, one in the seventh and four more in the eighth.

For Lander, Compo went 3-for-3 with one triple, one run scored and five RBI; Barbaro went 1-for-4 with one double and two runs scored; Hutchins went 2-for-4 with one double and two runs scored; McLeod went 3-for-6 with one run scored and one RBI; Davis went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI; and McCann went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.

For Claflin, Hill went 2-for-4 with one double and one run scored and Eric Jordan went 3-for-4.
Lander stranded 12 baserunners, compared to Claflin's six.

William Dudley pitched two complete innings for Lander, striking out three and allowing just two hits.
